History
Gateway CDC was organized by residents of Mount Rainier, Brentwood, and North Brentwood, Maryland --- three diverse, mixed-income municipalities located on the northeast border of Washington, DC at the “gateway” into Prince George’s County, Maryland. Although our three towns share contingent boundaries and a common “main street," Rhode Island Avenue/Route One, history often separated us by class and race. Eager to explore common interests and bridge these divisions, residents of the three towns began meeting as early as 1995 to discuss how we could work together for the betterment of our communities. Year after year, more and more residents became involved. In 1997, in an effort to move forward in cooperation and collective development, the residents formed Gateway Community Development Corporation. Since this time, Gateway CDC has grown to become one of the leading membership, planning, and development organizations in Prince George's County.

Mission
Gateway Community Development Corporation seeks to revitalize the three municipalities of Mount Rainier, Brentwood and North Brentwood to create a safe, attractive, vibrant and well-educated community enriched by the presence of artists and arts organizations, where diversity is embraced as an asset. Gateway CDC uses civic engagement, arts resources and leveraged partnerships to advance commercial and residential development and expand programs and services to residents and business owners in our communities.
